Remastered games: the price of nostalgia

Historically hundreds of games have been produced with a range of missions or goals to be achieved. It is a shame when these games are forgotten or when a game disk breaks or is scratched and can no longer be played. This has led to games appearing on later consoles, being able to buy the original games for a discount price. The focus of this article is on the recent announcement of the remastering of the original Crash Bandicoot games for PS4, the continuation of games such as Spyro the Dragon and games which cross both barriers such as Pokémon.

With huge benefits present for the gaming industry in the remaking of games and by playing on the nostalgia of its customer base and the advancements in technology, there is no end to which gaming can progress with future games potentially being in a 3D virtual reality where you play as your favorite character. The pressure that is on the gaming industry to both develop new games and also keep the old customer base happy is very complicated. The remastering of old games helps adults relive their childhood whilst games which use continuation of ideas always target new customers whilst retaining some of their older customer base.

Companies that want to succeed in the ever changing gaming industry need to be willing to adapt and come up with fresh ideas which catch the eye of old customers and also make it exciting enough to attract new customers. Who knows what the future holds, but it is certain that the gaming industry will always find ways to sell products. Further research is needed into the neuronal processes linked with nostalgia in respect to gaming.
